'07-'08 School Year Calendar

Words for the Week from Jodi and Brenda 11/26/07

We hope everyone had a healthy and enjoyable Thanksgiving break. The next 4 weeks of school will be quite busy.

Over the next month in literature class, we will look at the elements of story. First, we will do a comparative study of 5-6 water-related myths. After we get a strong sense of story components, we will then try our hand at writing original myths.

We also continue to work on our Personal Interest Projects and will hear presentations on everyone’s first round before the break.

Subtraction is the math focus! Please help our math program by making sure you child knows his/her subtraction facts. Knowing these facts will help students work more easily with greater numbers and more complex concepts. See homework.

As we near the end of our first trimester, students will take some time looking at work and setting some new goals. This supports our school-wide goal to promote self-directed learning. Report cards will be mailed out next week.

Our work with Paul Hoak continues. This week, students will write a summary of what this group work involves, a personal response to it and how the skills we practice will help in school and at home,
