The test will be a mixture of questions with one word/phrase answers, questions that need at least one sentence to answer, questions that need a few sentences or an image, and some old vocabulary words that you will only have to write a definition or a sentence for. Counting the 8 vocabulary words there are 25 questions. You will be allowed to have your Social Studies journal but no books or packets while you are taking the test.

The map should be 11” X 17” (ledger size) or larger. It should include what ever you consider important information in the packet of maps I have put together as well as a few important dates and numbers from your reading. If I included a map in the packet it means I think it contains important information of some kind. You are welcome to use other maps for sources but you should cite any other sources you use beyond the reading and the packet of maps.

The paper should be two (2) to four (4) pages long including a brief introduction summarizing the plot of The Slave Dancer. The body of the paper should compare and contrast how certain information on key aspects of the slave trade are presented. Comparisons can be made between the novel (historical fiction) and the packets (secondary historical sources) and or the autobiography of Olaudah Equiano (primary historical source) and or the movie Amistad (historical drama). Your thoughts on which are effective ways to understand the slave trade, whether the fiction added any elements that were missing in the other sources, and what is your preferred mode of learning history are all welcome.

You will have Monday study hall and most of Monday Social Studies class, and Tuesday study hall to work on papers & maps and study for the quiz. You will have Wednesday study hall and class to take the quiz and finish your work on the paper and the map.
