Great Online Learning Tools

There are a couple of learning sites that I thought parents might like to know about. One is Powerspeak Languages. This is a fee-based site that all students have free access to as part of our subscription to the Vermont Online Library. They have easy-to-use foreign language lessons, including Spanish. To access the site, you need to use the link from our library webpage, but you’ll need to ask Pam for the password. (you can email pburke@marlboroschool.net).

Thank You From the Library

A BIG thank you to Leander & Althea’s mom Jess for the huge donations of audiobooks! So many great titles, the kids are really excited about them. Thanks Jess.
Another BIG thank you to Max C. for the excellent picture books. There is nothing like beautiful, hardcover picture books in great condition to make us all smile. Thanks Max.

Thanks for the Books!

It seems that when we hired our wonderful new Learning Specialist, Erik Schickendanz, we got more than meets the eye. Not only do we get the honor of working with such a nice new teacher, but we made new connections with his book-loving family. Erik’s mom saw our Amazon Wishlist link on our website, and ordered three excellent new books for our library. Wow, what a great surprise! Many thanks to Erik’s mom for the unexpected gifts.

Thanks also to Cooper’s mom Kathy for the stream of awesome novels she’s been supplying to the library. The 5th graders will tell you, having extra copies of Warriors & Lightening Thief books is a must.

Library 2010/11

Dear Families,

Welcome back to school! Here is some general information about the library at school.

We do not have any set due dates and do not charge fines for overdue books. I give the students reminders once a month and ask them to return books as soon as they are finished so other students can enjoy them. Accidents do happen occasionally, and if books are lost or damaged, let me know. The regular replacement fee for a lost book in $15.00, or replacement with the same edition. If books get wet, it’s important to let me know immediately so I can try and stop mold from growing. (If a book gets moldy, it can easily spread to other books in the library.)
