Thank you! To the family of Leander & Althea for the beautiful BIG book on buildings,
it’s a hot ticket. Thank you also to Izzy & Daniel’s family for the copy of Bone 9 and to Cooper’s family for the collection of novels & parenting books.
We really appreciate the donations to the library.

Did you know we have a new library catalog that’s accessible online? Go to marlboroschool.net to search our library catalog and see what books we have on the shelves. Students (and parents if they would like their own account) can even log in from home to see what books they have checked out
- pretty handy for those days you’re searching the house for library books! Students grade 3 and up already have accounts set up, you can ask them to show you how they login. Younger children can also have their own accounts, just let Pam know a handy password.

Parents should feel free to check books out from the library too. Please contact Pam by email (pam@marlboroschool.net) or stop by to learn how. Next time you’re in the library, you might want to check out the parent’s book collection in the computer lab. We have CDs of lectures by Kim Payne as well as his new book, Simplicity Parenting. You also might be interested in these titles:
Last child in the woods; saving our children from nature-deficit disorder by Louv
How to talk so kids will listen & listen so kids will talk by Faber & Mazlish
Cyber-safe kids, cyber-savvy teens; helping young people learn to use the Internet safely and responsibly by Willard Of course, we have a large and wonderful collection of books for children as well, you might just stumble upon a new favorite or an old classic.

I’ve had many requests from the students to let parents know about Tux Paint – the free drawing software we use at school. If you’re online, you can download Tux Paint for your home computers for free – just google “Tux Paint” – there are versions for Mac & PC. It’s great fun & the kids love it. Playing with Tux Paint can improve mouse control skills and teach kids how to troubleshoot and manage menus and files, all while using their creative minds to draw. I recommend agreeing to a certain amount of computer time before you get started – it’s easy to spend too much time in front of the screen!
There are also links to many free, web-based educational games on our website. Each classroom page has links to age-appropriate games, and the library page has a master list of fun things I’ve stumbled across. I’m pretty selective, and you’ll notice that most of the games I recommend do not have any commercial or media tie-ins. I also recommend using the Firefox browser because of its excellent ad-blocking capabilities.
