We do this in many ways. All students play together on the playground, sing together at All School Sing, and celebrate each other during Appreciations. Older and younger classes are paired up for Buddy Reading. Seventh graders serve as kindergarten interns for a week – and, after that week, you can hear the little ones call out, “Hi, Roshika! Hi, Ben!”

Winter Workshops provide another opportunity for building community. This year’s groups will be multiage, each group including students from all grade levels. We will pair up youngers and olders so that the older students can help their “buddies” with the fun activities. Once workshops start in January, check in with your child to see how it’s going.

Next P&F Meeting: Monday January 10th, 2211 MES Library – 7pm

P&F Extends A Very Big Thank You To All The Mes Families For Supporting Our Fundraisers!

We were able to raise $1085.00 to support our students and classrooms. Sugarbush profited $285, thank you to Cathy Cunliffe and Julianne Mills for organizing and the Wreath Sale profited $800, thank you to Dori Collins and Sara Coffee for organizing.

At your recent conference you received the Marlboro School Handbook and below is an excerpt from the Social Climate portion.

Marlboro School Social Climate
We seek a culture of respect and kindness that promotes the development of social and civic responsibility in all students.

There is consistency and commonality of mission. And there is the flexibility to respond to students as individuals and in a way that takes into account their needs and teachers’ styles.

This culture is defined by physical and emotional safety with
Respect Appreciation
Civility Kindness
Thoughtfulness Tolerance
Inclusion
A sense of belonging
A sense of contributing
_________________________________________________________

Let’s dialogue with our kids and possibly ask some of the following questions:
“How are we respectful of each other at school? At home?”
“How do you include others at school?”

Additional copies of the Handbook are on the table in the MES hallway located outside of the offices.

Friday November 5, 2010 join Francie after All School Sing for coffee.

Join us for the first meeting of the 2010-2011 school year

Monday, September 27th at 7pm in the MES Library

Parents and Friends (P&F) is exactly that – parents of children who attend
MES and any friends who would like to support our school. We extend a welcoming invitation for you to join us at our first meeting. We will be discussing fundraisers, budget, and new ideas for the upcoming school year.

P&F sponsors fundraisers to raise money for teacher, classroom and program requests that are beyond the means of the regular budget. We also sponsor family events and we started off the year by hosting the back to school pot luck. Thank you to all families who attended. It was great to see both
familiar and new faces.

Committee Members – We welcome the following new and returning members: Chair: Dori Martin Collins
Secretary:	Sparrow Stevens
Treasurer:	Julianne Mills
Members:	Francie Marbury, Kevin Collins, Katie McCarthy, Gretchen Webber, Heather Sperling, and all of you who haven’t had a chance to sign up yet!

Room Parents are another active part of P&F and their primary function is to communicate with the teacher to help coordinate various classroom events and projects. You will be meeting the parents who have already volunteered at the upcoming Room Parent nights so thank you to them. There are still some classrooms needing room parents so please consider volunteering.
