Flash Mobbing at MES
Recently, Grades 3/4/5 in Rhythms used their improvisational skills to make a Flash Mob Event at All School Sing. Flash Mobs, first named “Smart Mobs” (to separate them from chaotic, angry crowds) are site-specific group happenings created in the tradition of the Movement Choir. These Choirs were inspired by kinesiology-theorist Rudolf Laban (1879–1958), who saw that group-movement answered a basic need in human society: sharing, constructing, and performing together. More currently, the popularity of Flash Mobs, (like the T-Mobile Dances that appear without warning in train stations, and shopping malls) have extended this theatrical tradition to public spaces, surprise places, and unexpected venues.
…and who knows where they will show up next!! A Flash Choir awaits….
