Note From Francie 1/4/08
Happy New Year and welcome back to winter at the Marlboro School! We started right off with the scent of blueberry muffins wafting through the halls. The Healthy Snack program is underway and serving 44 students this week. Congratulations to Celena Colgate for all the preparation, hard work, and creative and nutritious menus. Here are some of the comments so far: Taylor says, “The blueberry muffins were awesome!” Luci and Morgan say, “When will we have pancakes again?” Shawna says, “Yum!” And Celena says, “I didn’t know that 90 pancakes would take one and a half hours to make!”
Next week will start off with a bang with Winter Workshops in the morning and Winter Sports in the afternoon. Your children will find out which workshop they’re in today. I’m excited about the quality of the artists who will lead the workshops. They all have strong backgrounds as teachers as well as having expertise in their art form.
Winter Sports mean a lot of preparation on your part! Please be sure your child has appropriate clothing. After an early lunch the skiers will leave, followed shortly by the skaters. Molly Burke is ready to take kids to the next level in ice skating skill and the instructors at Mt. Snow will do the same. Gail Chaine and her volunteers will expose their participants to a variety of outdoor winter activities. Once again this year, the kids will not be allowed to purchase snacks from the vending machines at the mountain or at the rink. Please send a snack from home.
Winter Sports also provides teachers with valuable time for planning and working together. We will spend three of the afternoons working on math curriculum and our assessment plan.
Basketball is in full swing with the Junior High teams playing Friday afternoon and the 3rd-4th and 5th-6th teams playing on Saturday. Good luck to all!
Finally, a big thank you to several people who helped make the school ready for the new year while we were on vacation. Tim Burns put in many hours deep cleaning the school and clearing all the snow. Volunteer parent Matt Dricker installed our new firewall to help keep us all safe on the internet and donated the computer needed to run it. He also provided some much appreciated network consulting. Thanks, Tim and Matt!
