Welcome back to another great year of learning adventures!  Despite the heat we got right down to work with Primary students getting to know each other and practicing classroom routines, 3rd-4th grade students wading into their garden jungle, 5th-6th grade heading to Hogback to begin their ecology study, and the Junior High taking off for Mystery Day which included the construction of sailing rafts on South Pond.

It was great to see so many of you at the New Year’s Potluck on Monday.  Thank you for welcoming new families and staff!

At Sing this morning we welcomed them again and sang some of our favorite songs.  Ellen and Tim also told us about a new idea for sharing what’s going on in classrooms.  Classes will take turns presenting about a topic they’re working on.  A strong school social climate is built on knowing each other well and developing the confidence to speak up on important issues – both promoted by this addition to Sing.

Gail and I are deep into the beginning of year paperwork.  I’m processing the applications for free and reduced price Healthy Snack and have learned that, once again, if your family qualifies for the reduced price you will receive it at no cost.  Even if you’re not sure you qualify, you may be surprised so don’t hesitate to fill out an application.

The kitchen renovation is almost complete.  We’ll wait until the October break to put in the new floor but Celena is looking forward to serving Snack next week.

Our current enrollment for After School is lower than expected.  We may need to cut back on the number of days we offer this program.  If you intend to register your child, please contact Rose as soon as possible.  And remember that the childcare subsidy is available to eligible families.  In addition to After School, there are two other exciting activities being offered this fall:  soccer and Fire and Stone:  Making Wilderness Fires.  Find more information below.

Parent Nights are all on the school calendar and I hope they’re also on yours!  These evenings are an excellent opportunity to find out expectations and plans for your child’s class.

Enjoy the long weekend and we’ll see you Tuesday!
