Welcome to Brenda Kennedy as the 3rd-4th grade teacher and to Elaine Ahnell, the assistant in that classroom. As many of you know, Brenda is the mother of Liam and Mesa and has been the assistant in the 3rd-4th grade classroom all year. She has also contributed her energy and talent to MES in many other ways – particularly to P&F, the Parents and Friends group. Elaine is an experienced teacher who retired from Connecticut and relocated to Wilmington. We are so lucky to have these two high caliber educators to finish out the year in the 3rd-4th grade classroom.

By now you’ve received the School Survey in the mail along with my plea to fill it out and return it as soon as possible. As the Action Plan Committee works to revise our Action Plan, these surveys will provide very helpful information. Thanks for completing this.

Several weeks ago I sent home a letter about a drill we’ll be participating in as part of our emergency preparedness plan. This will be an unannounced drill and will take place sometime in May. Teachers are preparing your children by talking with them about what we will do in a situation which requires leaving the school. Many of us remember participating in drills as children and sometimes these made us fearful. Our hope is to do exactly the opposite by giving children a clear and simple plan which will build their confidence.

Stop by to check out the notebook of summer activities which Gail has put together. There are camps of every stripe – music, crafts, sports, environmental. Once again, KROKA, an Earth Living Skills School, is offering a half-price camp to one MES student. Please call me if you’re interested.
