Marlboro Elementary School Selects New Principal

Marlboro families, I am absolutely delighted to share this very good news with you. Enjoy the vacation! ~ Francie

The Marlboro School District Board is pleased to announce that they have reached agreement with Wayne Kermenski to become the principal beginning in the 2017-2018 school year. Mr. Kermenski was selected after a thorough process involving a variety of stakeholders. In the Fall, outgoing principal, Francie Marbury, hosted a series of facilitated conversation with students, parents and community members, and the school board to develop a job description for the next principal.

According to Marbury, “ We were delighted to have an excellent pool of candidates from which to choose. Clearly the applicants read the job description carefully as they spoke to the values and aspirations of this great little school. Having worked with Wayne when he served on the Marlboro School Board, I know that he shares these values and will also bring new vision and new skills to Marlboro School.” Following the development of the job description, the school board engaged the services of professional facilitator Suzanne Whitehouse to organize a screening and interview process. The process was measured, inclusive, and productive. At the end of it all, Wayne Kermenski was the enthusiastic recommendation of the committee.

School Board Chairman, Douglas Korb, was effusive in his praise of Mr. Kermenski. “Mr. Kermenski impressed the hiring committee on many levels – from crafting and managing a small school budget to researching and guiding curriculum. His understanding that K-8 schools are educating children for the ‘economy of the future’ (his own words) is clearly evident in his work.

His reputation in the Hawlemont School district precedes him, having driven enrollment up by more than 20% in the last two years. Marlboro parents and residents should be very excited tohave him, and I am very excited to be working with him.”

Wayne Kermenski has been an educator since 2007. He began his career as a High School Science and Math teacher at Mohawk Trail Regional High School in Shelburne Falls, Ma. In addition to teaching Math and Science, Wayne developed and taught a 7th grade Project-Based Learning Class for middle school core instruction. In February of 2015, Mr. Kermenski became the principal of Hawlemont Regional Elementary School. Wayne had this to say about his new position, “I am thrilled to be the next principal of Marlboro Elementary School.

As a former Marlboro School Board member, I am familiar with and share the same experiential educational philosophy that has made Marlboro such an exceptional school. I am looking forward to working with you to continue this tradition of excellence.”
