Primary News – December 3 – 7

Our week…
Research, math problem solving and the Holiday play were our major activities last week. Students are doing an amazing job on their research books. We can’t wait to share! We are also learning about different strategies when problem solving. The first strategy we are working on is to draw a picture or diagram. Primary students are also working on math addition facts using games and sharing various strategies. The holiday play is underway! You will be getting more news as time goes on.
Ask your child the following questions for more news.
o What adding strategies are you working on?
o How do you play “Beat the Calculator”?
o Is math problem solving hard?
o Tell me about “The Mitten”. What’s your role? Do you have a speaking part?
o What’s the different between The Mitten by Jan Brett and The Mitten play?
o What book did Pam read during library that was similar to The Mitten?
o Tell me about James and the Giant Peach.
o Did you complete your research book introductory page?
o Tell me about Aidan’s Sunflower Seed research book.
o Have you helped with the Deerfield Valley food drive?
o Who was the V.I.P. last week? What did you learn about him that you didn’t know? (Liam)
o What are you reading in your reading group?
Speaking of the food drive…The Primary students have decorated boxes for our food drive. We hope to collect lots of food to help those in need.

Change of clothes!!! Now that cold and wet weather is here, it is very important that all students have a change of clothes. Many children got very wet the other day at recess. Some students had shorts for a change and some had nothing. Also, accidents still happen! Everyone needs a change of underwear, socks, top and pants.
