Primary News January 4-8
Welcome back and Happy New Year! I hope you had a wonderful holiday and vacation. The new year is always an exciting time in the class. The kids are ready to get back and see all their friends! As you probably know, Liz will not be in school this week and next week. She is off on a very exciting trip to Australia with her husband to visit Max, her son. Thankfully, we’re covered in the class. Julianne and Jess will be subbing this week. Jodi Paloni will cover for Liz next week.
Winter workshops and sports begin today. Since that is one less day of academics, the older students will still have spelling, just a bit abbreviated. Younger students will finish up their alphabet book this week. They will then begin spelling with a focus on short vowels and word patterns; “If you can spell “at”, then you can spell “bat” for example. Both older and younger students will continue with our geometry math unit. On occasion, we have math altogether. That is always a great success – especially when the older students teach the younger ones a new game. We tried it out before vacation and it worked like a charm.

Theme Group
We will continue to observe birds at our feeders. Our new theme will be water with a focus on the water cycle and weather. We will also take a look at the properties of water.
Some reminders for the new year
Violins should come back to school by Wednesday.
All students should have P.E. sneakers!!!
Snow pants are a must for recess along with boots, hats and mittens.
Library books should be returned by Wednesday.
No boots in the class but slippers are fine!
Poetry classes will begin in two weeks on Friday mornings and afternoons for 4 weeks in the Library with Ann Gengarelli. We are looking for someone to help out with dictation either times. If you can help any of those times, please let me know.
Have a great week!
Judy and Liz
